What do we really own in life?  Taking into account that we had absolutely  nothing to do with our own creation, I'll make the leap and suggest that our only pure possession is our "Now."  At anytime that's all we can fully claim as ours.  What's been is done and what's coming may never come.  The ladder of life holds no vision even of the very next rung!  To be sure we plot and plan for the future and I suppose we should.  But the true gift is the gift of "now" and it couldn't hurt to learn how to handle this present properly.  Every moment affects the next and each one possesses the potential of shaping our life's direction for sometime to come.  Scary I know, but that's why capturing each moment for Christ is so vital.  I must admit I waste, abuse and piddle away far too many of these potential defining moments – maybe you could say the same.

As  followers of Christ it should be our fervent desire to understand how we can exact more of these "now moments" for our Lord.  The apostle Paul tells us, to take captive every thought and to make them obedient to Christ.  In attempting this we become better able to seize and surrender each "NOW" we're given, thus resulting in a life more effectively lived for the glory of God.  I claim ownership of "now" and I give it freely to my King!

"Teach me Your way O Lord, and I will walk in Your truth; give me an undivided heart that I may fear Your name."

Time to Decide PDF Print E-mail

Following Christ both fully and faithfully can be an arduous task in our culture in this era of immediacy.  This rapid-fire twenty first century brings with it constant challenges for compromise in our walk with Christ.  Now I’m sure the challenge-part  has always been true for every generation that has sought answers in Christ. Today however, the multiplicity of alternatives available for someone searching for those answers within the church are overwhelming.  In our fast-paced snatch-and-grab culture pausing long enough to acknowledge the relevance of the Spirit’s voice is rare, even for believers!  We want it now or we’re moving onto something more immediately gratifying.  Not only do we want it now, but we also want it in our flavor!  This of course, leaves little room for divine challenges to come our way so that we might become stronger and more confident in our journey as disciples.

In the land of ten thousand distractions how do you hear one still small voice?  The answer is desire.  When we desire something more we strain for it, struggle for it, become devoted to the pursuit of it.  In my mind, desire comes from deciding.  Deciding that there is nothing greater or of more value than the pursuit of Christ.  Upon making that decision simplicity is born and simplicity is the structure for devotion.  This helps us to destroy the temptation for constant compromise leaving us with a greater possibility of following Jesus both fully and faithfully!

“Teach me Your way, O Lord!”

That’s what we’re calling it!  It’s a time of celebrating our ability to know Jesus and be an active participant in His glorious kingdom’s work.  Come Wednesday, September 14 AWANA won’t be the only thing kicking off!  We invite the entire church family, along with anyone you can pack up and bring with you, to join us in shouting to the Lord and generally being excited about who you are in Christ!  Our band will lead the way but we’re also looking for others to join in the Praise-Party – how can you help?

We’ll be meeting in the sanctuary following our Wednesday evening meal at 6:30.  So come and eat if you like or just meet us in the church.  We’re praying that this will also be a time of outreach for our church body.  So maybe you can invite someone who’s been a little leery about coming to a more formal church event?

To reach our community we need you (Christian) to become excited about your faith, excited about your church, and passionate for souls!

Come celebrate with us!

"Praise the Lord.

Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty heavens.

Praise Him for His acts of power; praise Him for His surpassing greatness.

Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet,

praise Him with harp and lyre,

praise Him with tambourine and dancing,

praise Him with strings and flute,

praise Him with the clash of cymbals,

praise Him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord."

This just in: according to holy scripture WE ARE TO PRAISE GOD!

Looking at this Psalm (which is Psalm 150) we are to put everything we can into that praise; voices, instruments, feet, every breath we take – it's much more than just singing a hymn!  It's spontaneous eruption of joy being released because of who our God is and what He has done for us.

Won't you join us on Wednesday evenings starting September 14 as we seek to explore just what it means, and quite frankly what it takes, to properly praise such a Holy God?  (I know I need help with the dancing part.)

Knowing God is the point, right?  It’s the reason God came down as man; the reason we have Holy script; it’s the very reason God the Holy Spirit dwells within believers.  So, what about it, how well do you know God?

If knowing God and entering into a relationship with Him is the point – and it is – then understanding a little about His nature would surely help . . . agreed?  Consider this; God stands poised at this very moment, ready to overwhelm you with His love.

Jesus, while talking to the crowds following Him, tells a great story to illustrate this very point.  The story is about a father who has two sons.  Both sons have a strained relationship with their dad, to say the least.  One is rebellious, the other bitter.  But throughout this beautifully unfolding story emerges the powerful unassuming love of the father.  He lets the rebellious son leave but longs for the day he can grab hold of him again.  Then having his baby back, he withstands the venom spewed at him from the older son redirecting that anger toward a new reality (at least for the son) and that is: “Everything I have is yours!”

Here it is: knowing God is made possible only because He’s the type who just won’t quit loving.
