“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is He who has been born king of the Jews?  For we saw His star when it rose and have come to worship Him.’”  Matthew 2:1-2 (ESV)

On a particular night a particular star rose to mark a particular birth.

The question (at least to me) is, “Why do you suppose that it was left to these Gentiles to recognize the significance of this moment and then act upon it?”  Did they see the fulfillment of an ancient prophecy proclaimed by a forerunner of their ilk many centuries before?  Or did the Holy Spirit stir their hearts to observe, investigate and find?

Either way, the question remains: where were the godly?  Preoccupied to the point of blindness?  Or perhaps lulled into believing that nothing miraculous happened anymore?

Today may we remind ourselves to seek God’s path for our lives – to look for the light of miracles – which may lead us on a journey of biblical proportions!

Follow the light!

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS PDF Print E-mail

Well, it doesn't really matter whether you’re making them or not . . . people all around you are making New Year’s resolutions and you’ll have to listen them go on about theirs . . . at least for a day or so.  So why not be well informed?

The Marist College Institute for Public Opinions released its findings on what Americans have decided as their top resolution for the New Year.  “Being a better person” topped the list at 16 percent, knocking “weight loss” from the No. 1 spot for the first time since 2014, according to the Poll.  That’s a big statement!  May I make some suggestions on how this feat can be accomplished?  Here’s but a few:

• Resolve to become a doer of the word of God, not merely a student!
James 1:22

• Resolve to labor intensely for the Lord, handling the word of God properly.
2 Timothy 2:15

• Resolve to consistently meet for worship and study!
Hebrews 10:25

• Resolve to faithfully keep the Lord’s commandments.
John 14:15

• Resolve to share the love . . . make disciples.
Matthew 28:19

When it comes to becoming more . . . God’s word has you covered!  Love it, learn it and live it!

MERRY CHRISTMAS PDF Print E-mail

Merry Birthday?  No, that’s not right.  Merry Easter?  Wrong.  Merry Anniversary?  That’s not quite how we express that sentiment, is it?

Interesting that word “merry” seems to be solely married to the remembrance of our Lord’s birth?

Merry Christmas!!!

The meaning of the word “merry” is joyful, jubilant, jolly, cheerful – and how could we be otherwise when reveling within this gift of life found in Jesus?

We, the undeserving, are overwhelmed by the love of the unstained, receiving what was once unthinkable and unreachable . . . abundant life!

May Christ’s presence make you marvelously merry today and everyday until His appearing.  Merry Christmas!

GOD CAME DOWN PDF Print E-mail

Wherever I go in town lately – whether it is doctor offices, department or hardware stores, the psych ward, wherever . . . there’s something that we all have in common, the flood.  “The flood.”  The mother of all floods!

Either we ourselves were personally immersed or parts of our family were. It could have been our home, a family member or our work.  Most of us have this in common – and all the unique headaches that have come along with this tragic event.  We speak the same language.

To be honest, I’m not sure if a day has gone by since the waters have receded that I haven’t spoken of or thought of this event.  That day is a reference point that we all share.

As Christians we share a much more important reference point.  One that since it’s happening, imprinted itself upon our entire world . . .

“For unto you is born this day . . .”

On a specific day . . . God came down!  This is without a doubt the most significant of days.  For without the incarnation there is no resurrection.  If God does not become our lamb, we have no hope for life.  This is the day that should be on the tip of our heart, brain, and tongue.

My prayer is that we will find joy in pouring loving energy into building our permanent dwelling!  Never let the passion fade!

Merry Christmas!

HOPE PDF Print E-mail

“And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.”  Luke 2:20 (ESV)

Hope entered our world one night when the ordinary gave way to the unthinkable.  Heaven ripped through our reality and stepped in with a message that not only changed the lives of these herdsmen, but the entire world as well.

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”  Luke 2:11 (ESV)

Their Savior is our Savior . . . their good news is our good news!

What we should seriously ask ourselves is this:  Is our response to this history changing news the same as these shepherds on the hillsides of Bethlehem?

They listened, obeyed, and opened theirs hearts to the miracle before them –  proclaiming to everyone what took place.

May we be found as faithful with our miraculous message of hope!
