STAY IN THE BATTLE Print

“I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation.  But take heart; I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33 ESV

A result of the coming of the Christ, is that peace now resides within the heart of those who truly believe that Jesus is God the Son incarnate   that He is indeed the Christ.  When that truth is accepted and one s will is given over completely to Jesus – then a peace that is beyond human comprehension floods the believer s heart, mind, and soul.  But not only does He, God the Holy Spirit, place that peace within the believer He also puts a sword in his or her hand!

Peace and swordplay don’t seem compatible, do they?

Perhaps not, but in the Christian faith they go hand-in-hand.  The peace we receive, being a divine gift, comes with much more power than anticipated.  As possessors of this gift, our eyes are opened to the warfare that is taking place at a fevered pitch all around us.  We observe those who are struggling because they are wrestling against the unseen enemy combatants in their own strength.  Then, suddenly the sword makes sense.

We are called never to become veterans, in the sense that we disengage from the conflict and seek retirement.  We are, however, called to use our veteran skills to assist others struggling for peace!

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:7 ESV
